This site is an informal inventory of species growing along the trail which links the village of Dryden, NY with nearby Dryden Lake, a three-mile stretch of converted Lehigh Valley Railroad track, acquired in large part through the foresight of Jim Schug, our former town supervisor. The plants may be classed as cultivated species (a small group - remnants of local farms); alien species (a much larger group - travelers along inroads made by the first European settlers and their descendants); and native species (another large group - wetlands and woodlands survivors of two centuries of radical environmental change). Since this web site is still under construction, I'd really appreciate receiving ID's of any kind, from any source. There's a place at the bottom of the screen to send me those. |
